Roosevelt: "Wenn je ein Denkmal für mich errichtet werden sollte, weiß ich ganz genau wie es sein sollte. Es sollte aus einem Block ungefähr dieser Größe bestehen (zeigt mit den Händen auf seinen Schreibtisch) und in der Mitte der Grünfläche vor dem Archives-Gebäude stehen. Es kümmert mich nicht, aus was es gemacht ist, aus Kalkstein oder Granit oder sonst etwas. Aber ich möchte es schlicht, ohne irgendwelche Schnörkel, mit der einfachen Gravur 'In Gedenken an…'." (1)
